How long will my claim take?
FSCS will investigate your claim as quickly as possible. As each claim is unique we can’t predict exactly how long it will be before we can give you a decision.
In the table below, you can see how long it’s currently taking us to complete most claims (8 out of every 10) that we receive for different products. This gives you an idea of the amount of time it is likely to take from making an application to receiving a decision letter.
This data includes all claims that have been completed within the past 9 months and was last updated on 2 December 2024.
Claim type | Most customers get their decision within |
Pensions | 14 months |
Investments | 13 months |
PPI | 3 months |
Mortgage advice | 5 months |
Endowment mortgages | 9 months |
Claims against Rowanmoor Personal Pensions: Due to the extensive investigation that FSCS had to complete before any claims could be assessed, some Rowanmoor claims may take longer than the average timescale shown for Pensions.
What’s happening with my claim?
We’ll keep you updated during your claim with emails and phone calls where possible. Once we’ve reached a decision, you’ll get a letter to explain it by email or post.
Once you’ve made a claim, you’ll also be able to see its current status at any time by logging into your account.
My claim has been showing the same status for a while, why is that?
You might notice that your claim stays at ‘evidence required’ or ‘reviewing evidence’ for a number of weeks. This is often because we need information about your claim from a third party and we’re waiting for them to send it to us.
Sometimes your claim’s status will show as ‘consulting another team’. This is when the person responsible for your claim has asked for specialist guidance from a colleague. This can take a number of weeks or months to complete depending on the complexity of the issue.
In some cases, we need to investigate the firm you’re claiming against more broadly before we can look at your individual claim. This could be because we’re checking its financial status or looking into its activities.
If this happens, you’ll see your claim marked as ‘Firm investigation underway’. If your claim is involved in a complex investigation we’ll write to you separately about it, as these can take many months to complete.
