Deposit protection limit - PRA Policy Statement PS1/17

The FCA and PRA require authorised firms to inform new and existing customers that FSCS protects their deposits. Authorised banks, building societies and credit unions are required to prominently feature FSCS disclosure materials in-branch and online (including mobile applications).

FSCS produces the designs that firms must use to comply with the regulatory requirements. The materials follow the publication in January 2017 of the PRA's Policy Statement on the deposit protection limit. This increased the limit to £85,000 from £75,000.

New disclosure designs are available using the links below which reflect the regulatory requirements. These are “printer ready” design files for firms to use.

The disclosure materials feature the ‘FSCS protected’ badge. This is designed to increase awareness of FSCS and to increase consumer confidence in financial services.

The badge now also reflects the look and feel of the creative designs we use in our consumer awareness programme.

Subject to FSCS terms and conditions, we would encourage all UK-authorised firms to feature the “FSCS protected” badge across their own communication channels and literature for relevant FSCS-protected products. To request badge artwork and usage guidelines, please email us at communications@fscs.org.uk.

The following materials are for use by UK-authorised firms only.

Whether a firm accepts deposits under a single brand or trading name or under multiple brands or trading names, they must prominently display materials in the following ways:

  • On websites and mobile banking in a way that best brings the information to the depositor’s attention. Banners should be displayed as prominently on mobile banking apps and websites as printed materials are displayed in-branch. Firms should display the information on the front page of a website or pop up box when logging on.
  • Displaying the external compensation sticker or poster prominently at the branch entrance on the window or door
  • Displaying:

           (a) the internal compensation poster prominently inside the branch

           (b) the sticker at each cashier window or desk

  • The leaflet must be made available within the branch and be provided to customers upon request.

We recommend firms work with professional designers and printers to produce these materials correctly.  The designer will insert the name of your firm, along with the names of any brands you share a licence with (if applicable), into the stickers and posters. We provide clear instructions for your designer and printer with each file you download.

To download the files your designer and printer require, please make your selection using the thumbnails or links below.

By downloading and using these materials you are agreeing to FSCS terms and conditions.

We appreciate this poster was previously provided as A4 and A1. If you initially need to maintain an A4 size due to operational requirements, then you can ask your designer to resize it. Optional materials for credit unions with a single brand/trading name

Your credit union must display stickers and a poster prominently in branch, including having a leaflet available on request. If your firm has no permanent location, you should still display materials with equal prominence.

All PRA authorised credit unions get a sample pack of materials to use.

You can arrange to get additional copies of the materials printed should you require and we recommend you work with a professional print firm to do so. We have provided clear instructions for any printer within each file. To download the files required by a printer, please make your selection using the thumbnails or links below.

Deposit takers who do not operate branches

Deposit takers who do not operate branches or whose branches are not accessible to customers would not be required to display posters or stickers in branches. But, as is the case with credit unions with no permanent location, you should display the FSCS material with equal prominence wherever or whenever there is customer contact.
